GALILEO YACHT - ARKONA - KEREON

GALILEO YACHT is a very fast moving shipyard with head offices in Geneva, a design office in Cannes and a shipyard in Marocco. GALILEO YACHT was launched in 2003 by Luc Simon a naval architect. It's a part of the Simon Group which combines a brokerarge company Team Boat, an innovation and technological company Team Innovation, a design company Team Creation, a construction and refit company Team industry, and Naval architecture Gallileo Yachts. GALILEO YACHTS designs and builts, sail and power catamarans, but also monohulls.

Two ranges of sailing catamarans are available : Arkona and Kereon. An Arkona 67 is currently in production (9 other power yachts have been sold) in Kenitra (Marocco). This first unit will feature 4 double cabines and a huge salon with a great 360 degrees view on the sea. An electrical diesel engine will provide plenty of energy for living confort aboard with very little noise while motoring.

Let's write about the Arkona range (from 67 to 130 feet). The Arkona's can be built in Epoxy carbon composite or Selium (a kind of Aluminium developped by Pechiney). The Arkonas feature a very high tech design and are strongly built for high seas crusing. Very comfortable, the leaving space aboard is as open to the sea as possible so you can enjoy the environnent. Performances also are important to Luc Simon, using light and strong materials, with a full batten mainsail, a furling jib and very high quality chandelry, the Arkonas are fast. We look forward to see the first Arkona in the water.

CUAN LAW - LAMMER LAW

Lets write about trimarans for a change. CUAN LAW and LAMMER LAW are sisterships. Both were built by the Algan Shipyard in CANADA and are availble for charter. CUAN LAW cruises in the British Virgin Islands and LAMMER LAW in the Galapagos. They are very wide (44 feet beam) enabling for a huge accomodation space with 8 double cabins each featuring a private toilet and a bathroom. They are owned by Annie and Duncan Muirhead who live and run their business in Tortola after having sailed for many years. Annie and Ducan always welcome their guests aboard and Ducan sometimes replaces the CUANLAW's captain. Both are crewed by a captain, a chef, an engineer, two stewardesses, and two divers. Wether you like to sail or dive you will enjoy those trimarans. They features a very complete diving equipment as well as Hobie cats.

I let you discover their websites, which are very comprehensive, and where you will find lots of beautiful pictures and virtual tours of the yachts. If you go to the bottom of CUAN LAW page, click on archives to have a look at the videos.

NAHEMA - INTERIOR DESIGN - FRANCK DARNET

Nahema has selected Franck Darnet as the designer for its first unit. Franck Darnet has a great experience in working both for large production shipyards such as Beneteau and custom yachts builders both sail and motor such as JFA, Garcia, Lazarra, and CNB collaborating with famous architects as Bruce Farr, Philippe Briand. . Franck has responded to Nahema's requirements of an open, very clear interior where the cockpit and the salon would make one large leaving space. The shipyard also asked the design team to pay attention to the lightness of the materials used to build a fast boat. Finally this first Nahema had to be as convenient as possible for the guests and the crew to leave aboard. Franck Darnet worked on the project with Karine Rousseau, a French Designer with offices in Miami, and lots of references in designing interiors of luxurious homes and hotels. Both Franck and Karine have studied at the famous Ecole Boule in Paris, Franck specialising in wood work and karine in tapestries. They have met the shipyard requirements with success as you can see in the 3Ds.

SUNREEF SHIPYARD

I had lots of information to share with you about Sunreef, which were sent to my by Ewa Stachurska their PR manager, a few week ago. Sunreef is very successfull. The shipyard was created in 2002 by Francis Lapp. Sunreef shipyard's buildings now comes up to a total of 6000 sqm meter. Actually 300 highly qualified workers with a study office of 40 people are building and designing the boats. This company has built 6 catamarans and has 9 in progress since 2006. I think this is the largest luxury catamaran builder that I know off. They are also building a 67 feet power catamaran and à 60 feet monohull. Their largest is the 74, "CHE", available for charter. I wrote about her in a previous message. They also run a very efficient charter company Sunreef Charter. Their design team is also working of a 150 feet, a 170 feet and a 200 feet project, huge catamarans. I would like those projects to be launched so I can write about them. Sunreef has distributors in Italy, Spain, and the USA. I also wrote on their 62 Guapa on a previous post. If you go to Sunreef's website (which is great) you will be able to look at a video produced by the sailing channel, see how the boats are built and a little very little bit of Poland at the beginning and the Antigua Charter Week at the end.

LONE STAR - HIGHEST HONOR

Again a Van Peteghem and Lauriot-Prevot design, Lone Star is one of the 85 feet cruising catamarans Highest Honor designed by the team. I think they have designed three of them, if you have more information please let me know. Lone Star has been completely refitted in 2005 and is available for charter in the British Virgin Island. There is a crew of four with a "meilleur ouvrier de france" cook which is the highest distinction you can get as a cook in France. LONE STAR can accomodate up to twelve guest in four queens and two twins with an extra little single bed for a child. The space on the deck and the salon is huge as it is often the case on such catamarans. The interior shows art works by french internationnally reknowned Laurence Setton. The website is full of great pictures, you really wish you were onboard to enjoy the best vacations.

NAHEMA

I am proud to announce that I have been hired by the Nahema shipyard to market their luxury catamarans in the United States. This will not change anything to my blog, the goal being to inform about the luxury cruising catamaran market in general and hopefully to help the industry partners promote their activities.

SILHOUETTE 76 - MATRIX

I am having a hard time finding luxury catamarans builders outside of France, it seems there are very few of them. If you know of any let me know. I have found this 76 feet catamaran built by the shipyard Matrix in Sout Africa. It provides ample entertainment space on the flybridge which features a jacuzy and a vantage area with commanding 360 degree views. Due to its simple self tacking sail layout it needs only the minimum number of crew to safely manage the yacht. There is a very complete section about the philosphy of this catamaran and all the technical aspects. I like the high tech exterior design. The interior is very clear and there is an amazining size owner cabin located on the platform behing the salon. This is a very unique feature. Of course this obliges to have the galley down which I am not very found of because the hulls become a real oven when the crew does a lot of cooking. But every boat is made out of compromises.
