EXCLUSIVE 76 - AN INTERVIEW OF PATRICK SASSIER

The last press release of Exclusive Marine (I just copied it, I know it's a shame).

Patrick Sassier, keeping a keen eye on the ExclusivE76
The 43 years old Patrick Sassier holds since 2005 a position as Exclusive Marine Consultant. A long time professionnal big yacht and charter skipper, Patrick shows plenty of experience to supervise the maxi cat construction phase at the King Cat/VIP composites shipyard in Olonne sur mer (western France) and to finalize Georges Benarroch's plans. Here's what Sassier has to say about this exciting endeavour.

1) How would you define your job at Exclusive Marine?
Patrick Sassier : Patrick Sassier : "I started out as Project manager, but i'd rather call myself a consultant. Early in 2005, Georges Benarroch asked me to help him out setting out the final plans for his Maxi cat. Quite naturally I got involved in the building process of the yacht, starting with the molds at the Multiplast shipyard in Vannes (Brittany-France), and moving along with the actual construction at King Cat / VIP Composite. I act very much like a go-between exchanging datas and ideas between ExclusivE Marine and the owner of the first yacht being built. At the moment, i'm concentrating on the building process, working closely with the yard's technicians, with a strong focus on the deck layout, mast rigging, .... all these aspects of a fundamental importance as I shall be the yachts skipper when navigation and tuning up time comes around. I shall also become the owner's first skipper."

2) How much experience do you have on this type of yacht?"I've been involved with yachting for over 15 years. I've sailed many different yachts, Classic boats as well as big 80 ft motor boats, not to mention 5 years as a skipper for Magic Cat with over 60 000 miles chartering around the world."

3) in your opinion, what makes ExclusivE 76 so much different from other yachts? "

The ExclusivE 76 is a multi functional sailing yacht with a "semi custom" concept. She offers many different sailing opportunities. She can be an owner's personal yacht with as many options as possible as well as a charter yacht. As a Maxi Cat, she offers both comfort and performance, which is in this market category a great asset. Architect Gilles Ollier's experience in multihull sailing is also a great asset. Just by looking at the shape of the hull, one realizes how effective the yacht will be no matter the weather conditions."

4)At what stage is the building of the ExclusivE 76?

"King Cat / VIP Composites shipyard is working around the clock on the first yacht. We are doing great progresses in the building process thanks to the designers and to the shipyards architects. The two hulls have been succesfully unmolded. Deck, flushdeck, floors are being set up and we are already working on the plumbings and on the main engines. We 're still planning a july launching..."

The Exclusive 76" in figures :

  • 70m² :the largest flush deck in its category
  • 33 to 36 tons : displacement

  • 23,20 m : LOA

  • 21,40 metres : length

  • 10,50 mètres : beam

  • 3 or 4 : cabins

  • 311m2 : sail area

  • 1,25 m : draught

  • 2 : current orders at Exclusive Marine

ONE YEAR OLD - HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Happy Birthday Luxury Catamaran

I just realized your luxury catamaran blog is one year old.

Champagne..

I started posting on this blog on March 27 th 2007. At the beginning I started to experience with blogs for fun and because I am found of cruising cats. Now, writing a post is real hapiness for me. Plus, I learn a lot about the business.

The luxury catamaran business is really booming with many projects being built and on the drawing boards. I am olding a few info for you for the coming weeks until I am authorized to publish them. New projects to come are really innovative in terms of design and building processes, not just replicas of older cats and that is a sign of well being.

GEMINI the world largest sailing luxury catamaran - 145 '

2008 will be the year GEMINI, the largest sailing luxury cat ever built so far will be launched and I can't wait to see the first pictures.

Great projects such as the NAHEMA 120, the SUNREEF 102, the BLUBAY 95, the BLUBAY 92, , the GUNBOAT 90, the YAPLUKA DD 85, the CATANA 87, the two EXCLUSIVE 76, the third MATRIX 76 will be either launched and sailing or well advenced by the end of the year.

Thanks to those of you who take time to leave some comments.

Thanks to those who have suscribed to the blog through FeedBlitz (right end column) many of you are in the industry. I will send you my short history of catamarans by the end of the week before publishing it on the blog next month.

Luxury Catamaran gets on average (since 1 January 2008) and according to the beta version of statcounter 164 page loads, 82 unique visitors and 14 returning visitors a day from all around the world which is quite good for such a niche subject.

For 2008 I would like to move to a three column template. I have tried experiments with wordpress but it takes me to much time to switch. If any one of you knows a free 3 column blogger templates I can customize through blogger, please let me know.

More to come on luxury catamaran, stay tuned.

SEAFARIS - A 41 METER LUXURY MOTOR CATAMARAN

SEAFARIS, winner of the 2007 World Superyacht Awards, is a very easthetic 41 meter catamaran. She comes out of the drawings of famous Incat Crowther, with an interior by Altis Architecture/Water Line Yacht Design and was launched in 2006 at Forgacs Shipyard (Australia). SEAFARIS, owned by a property developper who was very involved with all the design and building process of the yacht, is available for charter on The Great Barrier Reef. The huge master suite and the 4 guests state rooms are all located on the main deck with a large view on the sea. Overall, thanks to SEAFARIS width and well though layout, the interior offer a lot more than on a 41 meter monohulls. The interior features lots of art contemporary artworks.

SEAFARIS website is really great with lots of information. One the opening page you have access to the videos and in the plan&press section you can download all the technical information as well as the charter brochure.

I like this motor catamaran. It really seems to have been designed for relaxation and fun.

ORION - CATANA 87

ORION, CATANA's largest yacht produced so far, just passed through the shipyards doors (they had to enlarge for the occasion) on the 28 th of February in Canet en Roussillon (south of France). It is very hard to give you any precise information about this unit since very little came out of the shipyard during the building process and the only interior renderings available are in this PDF file . CATANA has done very little communication on its custom range, maybe ORION's owner ask so or they don't intend to insist on this range of production which is quite a different approach to boat building than standard or semi-custom, or maybe that is just their marketing strategy.
ORION was built for a South African owner, who already circled the world on a 58 ' CATANA, and features 200 sqm of living space. Built in composite to CATANA's high standards of quality and with a Christophe Barreau Design, she should be a great blue water catamaran with high performance. The official launching should take place in May. I hope we will get more information once she is launched.

CATANA shipyard has been founded in 1984 after a few ups and downs, it seems that it is now back on the right tracks. This shipyard has a great potential with really goods basics. You will find the information about the concept of CATANA in this section of their website which I developped and wrote while I was working there and part of the logbook I wrote while crossing a CATANA 471 during the Transat des Passionés 1998.
If you guys at CATANA have more information I can post on my blog just let me know.

SPIRIT 35 - NEW ZEALAND YACHTS

Eye catching Yacht

Special thanks to Roger who left a message on my blog and is a fan of wave piercer.

New Zealand Yachts is a shipyard located guess where specialized in designing and building Wavepiercer Yachts. They have also done recenlty the refit of BELLA DONA and DOUCE FRANCE the world largest sailing catamaran.

New Zealand Yachts has developped a line of Wave Piercer Catamaran Yachts from 25 to 50 meters.

They see 4 main advantages in this type of yachts :
  1. Environementally sound : 40 % lower fuel consumption than a monohulls and hull shape specially designed to protect corals reefs and have less influence on the sea environment.
  2. An amazing stability : slamming is really reduced. The air trapsact as cushion and smooth the ride even at high speeds in a 4 meter sea.
  3. Increased Real Estate : 25 % more interior and exterior space compare to a monohull
  4. Style : I have to admit that the Ken Freivokh (Maltese Falcon Designer) exterior design is quite nice for a motor yacht which I am not always a fan off.
Great Bathing Plaform - goes up while cruising

SPIRIT 35 was launched in 2004 and was awarded "the International Superyacht Design Award" by the Superyacht Society.

SPIRIT 35 offers her guest 258 square meters inside and 252 square meters outside for 10 guest, a lot of room. Definitely a head turner, she is available for charter ( EUR€ 98000.00-120000.00/wk) in the med and for sale at (15 950 000 USD).

Master Suite

You will find a great video of the SPIRIT 35 on You Tube.
