PENDENNIS'S HEMISPHERE SUCCESS CONTINUES

Over the last two decades Pendennis has repeatedly proven its ability to undertake the construction and refit of some of the most unique and beautiful luxury yachts in the world. This year the sailing catamaran Hemisphere has enjoyed a number of accolades from the yachting industry.

The yacht received a Judges Commendation in the World Superyacht Awards, and was a winner in two categories in the 2012 ShowBoats Design Awards (Interior Design Award, Interior Layout Award). Hemisphere has also been confirmed as a finalist in the ISS Awards (Sailing Yacht, 40m+), which will be announced on 25th October during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Hemisphere is currently enjoying cruising around the shores of Italy. Following a short visit to the Pendennis Palma Refit facility this autumn, the yacht will be heading to the Caribbean and the Pacific for the winter cruising season.

4 YEARS ANNIVERSARY STILL GROWING STRONG

Today, the luxury catamaran blog is blowing 4 candles.
2010 the year of the big launches.

What amazes me with my blog is that the number of connections is still growing. Here is the chart for the last 4 years.

Thanks to all of you readers.
It has been quite hard the latest weeks to keep up with the blog for two reasons :
  • first, I am really busy with my PR activity
  • second, the information is harder and harder to find. New projects are less numerous than last year for example.
So please if you are in the industry, do not hesitate to send me your information.

This is paradoxical since this year will be the very big luxury catamaran year with the launching of 9 super catamarans over 90 feet :

- HEMISPHERE, the 145 VPLP built at Derecktor and finished at Pendennis.
- PROUT PT 138, a huge trimaran built in composite in China.
- SUNREEF 114, the largest Sunreef built in Aluminium at the yard in Poland for the previous owner of the Sunreef 74 "CHE".
- SUNREEF 102 DD, a big year for the yard, which was scheduled to be launched in a couple of days, can't wait to see the pictures.
- VPLP 110, built at the JFA shipard in France on America's Cup Winner VPLP drawings.
- BLUE COAST 95, designed by Jean Jacques Coste and built by H2X for Megacatamaran due to be launched this summer and exhibited at the Cannes Boat Show.
- GUNBOAT 90, built in South Africa by Gunboat and designed by Morelli and Melvin
- YOUNG 90, built in Tunisia and actually being finished in Italy designed by Greg Young.

So stay tuned, send your comments and information, lots to be published by the end of the year.

HEMISPHERE AT PENDENNIS VIA SUPERYACHT BUSINESS

More news of Hemisphere, the largest cruising catamaran being finished at Pendennis via Superyacht Business

Pendennis to work on "world's largest cruising catamaran"

The 44m (144ft) Hemisphere, described as the world's largest cruising catamaran, has arrived in Falmouth, UK, to have its final fit-out undertaken by Pendennis Shipyard. The transport of the yacht on a container ship from the US was overseen by Peters & May. The yacht was offloaded at Port Pendennis Marina prior to her moving to the shipyard's covered dry dock.

Hemisphere will be the first craft to use the newly extended cover over the whole of the 150m (492ft) length of the dock compared with 75m (246ft) previously. This extension is part of an expansion project that also includes a new shed, boosting capacity for refit work in the yard. It is not known how long work on Hemisphere will take.

Among the reasons the final fit-out is being handled by Pendennis is the strong impression of quality for such work gained by the owner and captain of the yacht. To maintain this, Pendennis has recently taken on 22 new apprentices so that it now has some 50 in the yard out of a total workforce of 300. These include 12 general apprentices and 10 surface finishers.

Pendennis has been working with apprentices for 10 years and is currently being featured in a UK national radio and press advertising campaign for the National Apprenticeship Service.

SPOTTED ON VPLP's WEBSITE

I found the pictures of HEMISPHERE mast in the news section of VPLP's website. The mast is 53 meter long and HEMISPHERE boosts a 44.2 m meters. She is the largest catamaran in the world and I thought production had stopped at DEREKTOR shipyard. I hope it is the sign the HEMISPHERE is still on the track and will be launched in a near future. We are all waiting for her.

Does any one of you have some news ?

HEMISPHERE(ex GEMINI) CENTRAL TO DEREKTOR BANKRUPTCY

Again a boat building project with lawsuits.... DERECKTOR shipyards has filled for bankruptcy over the HEMISPHERE PROJECT (ex-GEMINI)

HEMISPHERE the largest cruising catamaran in the world 145' and 75 % complete would be at the center of a lawsuit between DERECKTOR and its owner GEMINI II. It was supposed to be delivered in 2007 on a contract signed in 2005. I let you read the article in the Connecticut post. I hope they will come out with a quick solution and the boat can be really delivered by the end of the year.

GEMINI PROJECT BECOMES HEMISPHERE - BREAKING NEWS

Thanks to Tom Ashwell from Synergy Yachting for this "avant premiere".

HEMISPHERE (formerly Project GEMINI), designed by naval architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) and built by Derecktor Shipyards in Bridgeport, Connecticut is on course to be delivered towards the latter part of this year.

With a length overall of 44.2m (145ft) and a gross tonnage of just under 500, she is set to scoop the record as the world's largest sailing catamaran. However, this will by no means be her only impressive credential, and the team behind the project has pooled their respective talents and expertise to accomplish the execution of this vessel.

Derecktor Shipyards was chosen to undertake the project from their Bridgeport facility, which is one of Derecktor’s three locations serving the eastern seaboard of the US for new-build, repair/refit and service work. Likewise, architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost were the obvious candidates to lend their expertise to such a specialized project.

The result is an innovative design packed with creatively practical features that blend speed and stability with both space and style. A draft of only 3m (9.8ft) ensures ease of maneuverability and access to ports and lagoons inaccessible to monohulls of comparable size. Decks and rig are remarkably uncluttered as visible deck hardware has been minimized and the 53m (174ft) high mast soars free of spreaders with all lines run internally. Tenders are also ingeniously stowed out of sight and the port transom houses a full water sports and dive locker served by a large hydraulic swim platform.
Destined for the luxury charter market in tropical climates, HEMISPHERE boasts a spacious flybridge with Jacuzzi, sun pads and shaded dining along with a vast indoor/outdoor living area on the main deck. Exceptional interior volume offers a high degree of luxury without a trace of glitz and designer Michael Leach has created a relaxed elegance which is the epitome of contemporary chic. Accommodation for 12 guests is arranged in 5 comfortable suite cabins and the yacht will operate with a professional crew of 8.

Burgess has been appointed to manage HEMISPHERE charter program which will commence with winter 2008/2009 in the Caribbean and charter rates start at US$150,000 per week excluding operating expenses.
