Mc Conaghy is working on a 78 footer based on the same concept as the MC²60 I already introduced in the blog. This design is for a prospect looking for a bigger catamaran but below 80 foot. There are actually 2 MC²60 being built. The first one will be launched in September. It takes twelve months to build a MC²60. Here is a slideshow of the 78.

Here is the latest video of the MC²60 by Mc Conaghy. The mould have been started. Hull 1 will be delivered in September 2012 and hull 2 November.

Mc Conaghy boats is currently building the MC²60 luxury catamaran due to be launched in 2012.

REDEFINING SPEED, LUXURY AND ELEGANCE - Mona Vale, NSW Australia, 05th April 2011.

McConaghy, the Australian boatbuilder, has teamed up with racing multihull specialist Bañuls Design to launch a new range of semi-custom high-performance catamarans that will set new standards of build quality, luxury and performance.

Named MC² (referring to McConaghy Catamarans and the two hulls), the range will start with the MC²60, which represents the next generation of composite, high-performance luxury catamarans.

Mc Conaghy, a custom yachts specialist, is behind some of the world’s fastest and most successful racing yachts (Alfa Romeo, Wild Oats, ICAP Leopard).
The designer, Renaud Bañuls, gained his experience in multihull design during his 10 years career at VPLP where he was instrumental in the design of the America’s Cup winner BMW Oracle and the Maxi trimaran Banque Populaire V.

Hull #1 of this speed catamaran will be delivered in September 2012, redefining speed as the real luxury on a sailing catamaran.

Raphaël Blot, Manager of the new luxury catamaran range comments: 'The term "high-performance catamaran" is frequently overused. Many supposedly fast sailing catamarans are in reality too heavy to sail fast, as weight is the enemy onboard a multihull. They reach double-digit speed in quite specific conditions - such as 20 knots of wind on the beam - but beyond this are otherwise quite slow. At just nine tons displacement the MC²60 is substantially lighter than existing 55-60 ft cruising catamarans, which means the MC²60 will be a fast catamaran even in light wind conditions and upwind.'
