SUNREEF TO BUILT THE BMT NIGEL GEE 40 METER MOTOR CATAMARAN

Right before the Monaco Yacht Show, BMT Nigel Gee has announced that Sunreef Yachts added the 40 meter motor catamaran to their portfolio.

I already introduced to you this 40 meter catamaran. Sunreef Yachts has now the worldwide right to sell and built this design under the Sunreef brand. Sunreef has the knowlegde and the yard to build large catamarans. BMT Nigel Gee has the expertise to design and follow the projet. The synergy should reassure potential buyers.

BMT Nigel Gee and Design Unlimited 40 meters Power Catamaran

BMT Yachts and Design Unltimited teamed up to create this 40 meters long and 11.8 meters large luxury motor catamaran.

The BMT Group, based in Southampton and Rotterdam, is a leading multidisciplinary engineering, design and technology consultancy offering its service to many industries including the yachting industry. It has worked on many large motor and sailing yachts, many large catamarans projects including on the 45 meter "Hemisphere" which is being currently outfitted at the Pendennis Shipyard and the largest sailing yet "Douce France".

Design Unlimited, based in Fareham (Hampshire, close to Southampton), is a large design office involved both in production and custom yacht design. They are in charge of the exterior and interior design of this 40 meters catamaran.

They took advantage of the very large beam to optimize the interior and exterior living spaces on the three decks. As you can see the owner suite and the saloon are huge. The lower deck welcomes, in two separate hulls, the crew quarters (port side) and two large en-suite VIP cabins convertible into one master suite (starboard side).

The main deck features two more en-suite VIP and a gym opening on a large deck. The sun-deck includes a pool.

The upper deck is mainly for the owner. It also welcome a very comfortable suite for the captain with a direct access to the pilot house.

The main deck has a large foredeck for two 6 meter tender with a crane and a lower garage for jet skis and water toys.

There are a number of propulsion options for this yacht. You can choose twin diesel engines for a 20 knot cruising speed and a 2600 nm range up or you can "upgrade" to 40 knots with quad diesel or combine turbines and gas installation.

JUTSON 75

It has been very hard lately to find new designs and new launches to post in the blog. Finally, I found this new 75 motor catamaran designed by Scott Hollers Jutson and built in Trinidad by CISL marine.


This 75 footer is powered by two man 800 s and has a top speed of 24 knots with a cruising range of 2000 nm. Scott Juston has designed quite a few motor catamarans ranging from 48 to 75 for those having been launched. The Jutson 75 was built in Trinidad by CISL Marine using light materials. It is loaded with comfort equipment but weights, according to the yard, no more than 56 000 kg. As you can see on the pictures, the flybridge fully covers the deck to protect the guests from the sun in the Caribbean where it is intended to by cruised.
The interior offers 6 double cabins with en-suite bathrooms, two lounging areas, a table for diner accommodating twelve guests.

RENE VAN DER VELDEN 38 METERS POWERED CATAMARAN

A new luxury power catamaran introduced by René Van der Velden at the Monaco Yacht Show. Sorry I have been copying press releases lately and not commenting much on the design because I am too busy with my consulting activity. I still want to keep the luxury catamaran blog alive and try to do my best to post at least once a week. If any one of you wants to write in the blog let me know, you are welcome to do so.

At the Monaco Yacht Show in September, René van der Velden Yacht Design introduced a dynamic new concept in luxury powered catamarans. The catamaran, with high comfort and low drag, is an ideal platform for an ecological design. Historically, however, cats have been designed from a profile view, and lack grace from other angles; for that reason they are not popular among keen yachtsmen. René van der Velden Yacht Design feels it is time to apply their elegant lines to the catamaran ideal, to broaden its visual as well as economic appeal, as can be seen in the accompanying renderings.
The 38-meter design, of striking originality and balance, takes advantage of slim, ideally shaped displacement hulls to assure fine seakeeping and low resistance across the speed range. With “standard” propulsion the catamaran easily attains 25 knots with excellent fuel economy at all speeds.
Equally important, high propulsive efficiency is assured between 14 and 20 knots, the cruising range preferred by most owners and crews. This is the range where other designs experience a resistance “hump,” wasting considerable fuel energy in producing massive waves. The naval architecture of these displacement hulls produces virtually no “hump.” For owners wishing still higher speeds, the hulls can be re-configured to plane.
By reducing emissions and using construction materials with a small ecological footprint, this 38-meter will provide a more sustainable yachting lifestyle with low operating costs. Optional serial hybrid propulsion is available to further maximize the “green” qualities of the design.

BRASIL CAT 190 - A HOT MOTOR CATAMARAN

If you are looking for a well built, hot motor catamaran, turn your head to the new BRASIL CAT 190. This 63 feet catamaran offers more than 200 m² of living space and a maximum speed of 27 knots.

Built using the infusion process, the Brasil Cat 190 is light and well powered. The average speed is around 23 knots. At that speed this catamaran is very stable. Cats are famous in Brasil for their reduced draft which enable them to sail almost anywhere, even in the most secluded areas. The Brasil Cat has an autonomy of 1 700 miles with an average fuel comsumption of 130 l/hour. Founded in 2004, Brasil Cats aims the top of the market with a very high quality product. EVOLUTION YACHTS - 34 M LUXURY MOTOR CATAMARAN

This 34 meters luxury catamaran is actually being built in Australia by Evolution Yachts.

I know the economic crisis is hitting hard and maybe a few projects of luxury catamarans scheduled for the coming year will have to wait. Nonetheless I believe catamarans in general, whether sailing or motor, are still on the good side of the yacht market and have a bright future ahead of them.



Designed by Sam Sorgiavanni Designs this luxury catamaran will feature a lot of entertainment space and an helipad on the upper deck.

She will cruise at 18 knots with up to 11 guests and 8 crews. The yacht has accommodation for 8 crew in the hulls and two upper deck staterooms with private balconies, 2 VIP cabins on the main deck and another guest cabin with an office/nanny accommodation nearby provide accommodation for up to 11 guests. As you can sea in the Evolution website the construction is well advanced and she should be launched by the end of the year

UBICA 40 by Ubica Disseny Nàutic

I recently ran over this motor catamaran concept the UBICA 40 by Barcelona based design team UBICA. This design team is working in very different fields such as interior and transportation (cars, equipment, motorcycles) design and is delivering very high quality 3DS as you can see in this post.
This UBICA 40 is quite an inovative design for a fast motor catamaran with many interesting features not found anywhere else.
She features a lot of confortable leaving spaces with great view on the outside and a lot of light inside. The hulls hosts confortable cabins in a very pure design with separate heads. The platform welcomes sports seats in a high glass covered bridge to enjoy the speed, sofas with a table in the fore deck and an open kitchen on the aft deck.
This unique catamaran will be powered by biodiesel honeywell multifuel turbines and and electrical turbines. Top speed should be 50 knots while medium cruising speed 29 knots and 10 knots under electricity in a quiet mode. I guess the designers wanted to combine performance while reducing the effects on the environement. If any one of you knows whether or not this unique yacht is currently being built please let me know.

MCAT 88 - BRADLEY

I don't usually write about motor catamarans because the few designs I have seen so far didn't really look great to me but this is a question of taste of course. But I do like BRADLEY, a 98 feet, built by H2X shipyard and Designed by Gilles Vaton (like the Nahema project I am currently working for).

I am very busy actually preparing of the Boat Show season starting in Septembre with Monaco so please excuse me I have just copied an paste the description of Bradley from the H2X shipyard.

"Bradley whisk along at more than 20 knots. The space inside is like a real appartment of 188 m². She has extremely comfortable sleeping accommodation for 14, and a range of more than 1000 nautical miles, cruising at 10 knots. She is perfectly suited for pleasure cruising in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Her refined interior design matches perfectly with the light tones of ceruse oak for the wall partitions and with the warmth of exotic wenge wood for the floor area. Her very modern exterior design simply bursts out from the lacquer evening blue and silver grey tones of her paint work. Walking around on the teak deck is a joy. This little jewel of excellence, provided with immense lateral, tainted window bays is equally a technological wonder. She is equipped with two hydro jets, which allows her to be extremely manoeuvrable.
