BMT NIGEL GEE AND CLAYDON REEVES INTRODUCE THE SEMI SWATH OXYGEN PROJET

BMT Nigel Gee, a subsidiary of the BMT Group, has announced its latest design, developed in partnership with Claydon Reeves.  With her state-of-the-art Extreme Semi-SWATH (XSS) hullform, Oxygen redefines the explorer yacht genre, offering outstanding speed and seakeeping performance with the luxury and facilities of a true superyacht.

Equipped for all manner of pursuits, Oxygen’s primary role is a dive-explorer yacht carrying not only extensive diving equipment but also her own submarine, launched from an innovative stern lift that doubles as an adjustable swim platform.  Measuring 55 metres in length, and powered by four MTU 2000 series diesel engines driving a pair of controllable pitch propellers, the yacht can comfortably reach speeds of up to 24 knots.  While her low draught allows access to shallow, inshore locations, a ride control system consisting of active T-foils and interceptors ensures a smooth ride even in the most demanding offshore sea conditions.

True SWATH vessels demonstrate by far the lowest motions in rough seas, but at the expense of very high powering requirements and high running costs in comparison to more fuel efficient, conventional catamaran hullforms.  BMT Nigel Gee has previously developed a Semi-SWATH hullform for the US Navy offering significantly lower motions than those of a conventional catamaran, yet with a minimal increase in powering.  The XSS goes one step further in maximising the seakeeping performance of high-speed catamarans, effectively closing the gap between SWATH and Semi-SWATH technology.

Rob Sime, Senior Naval Architect at BMT Nigel Gee explains: “BMT’s proven XSS hullform offers seakeeping performance approaching that of a traditional SWATH vessel, but with powering and fuel consumption levels comparable to catamarans of more conventional form.  The XSS hullform has already been adopted for demanding applications in the offshore energy industry, and is equally well-suited to explorer yacht applications where Owners may not want their enjoyment to be interrupted by the prevailing sea conditions.”

Claydon Reeves approached the design with a clean sheet of paper.  “We were delighted when BMT Nigel Gee asked us to assist them in creating a luxury vessel on their XSS hull platform.” says James Claydon.  “The extreme beam available only on a catamaran allowed us to set aside conventional motor yacht design principles and instead create a totally original exterior, clothing a practical yet intuitive internal arrangement.”

Oxygen’s exterior has been designed with a fully glazed appearance, promising masses of internal light and spectacular views out.  The flush-sided, single volume deckhouse stands apart from conventional stepped and tiered superstructures.

Internally, guest accommodation is spread over three decks with the Owner enjoying forward views on the main deck with a private terrace.  Aft on the main deck, Dive HQ provides changing facilities for the day’s underwater activities and permits direct access to the water once the stern lift is deployed.  The main saloon and dining room are situated on the bridge deck above, along with the VIP cabin, Captain’s cabin and senior crew accommodation.  The remaining crew cabins are located on the lower decks.

Aft, a large dive store with decompression chamber and service area are located in the port side lazarette with the crew tender to starboard.  Above deck, an eight metre tender and five metre submarine rest whilst the fore deck helipad adds further exploration options for guests.

"THE STREETS OF MONACO" 155 METERS SWATH BY YACHT ISLAND DESIGN AND BMT YACHTS

Found on Superyacht Design this concept of floating offshore paradise with its own go kart circuit nammed "The streets of Monaco" and designed by Yacht Island Design and BMT Yachts.

I let you read the complete presentation of this concept on the Superyacht Design website. Just to summarize in one sentence : "The Streets of Monaco" is really a Yacht for only 16 guests and 70 crews, a copy of section of Monaco built on a stable Swath platform and powered by diesel electric drives.

Like it or not (I don't), the project seems serious since BMT is the technical design partner. I wonder who in the world would buy such a yacht, not so much for the price but for the taste !!

SUNREEF TO BUILT THE BMT NIGEL GEE 40 METER MOTOR CATAMARAN

Right before the Monaco Yacht Show, BMT Nigel Gee has announced that Sunreef Yachts added the 40 meter motor catamaran to their portfolio.

I already introduced to you this 40 meter catamaran. Sunreef Yachts has now the worldwide right to sell and built this design under the Sunreef brand. Sunreef has the knowlegde and the yard to build large catamarans. BMT Nigel Gee has the expertise to design and follow the projet. The synergy should reassure potential buyers.

BMT Nigel Gee and Design Unlimited 40 meters Power Catamaran

BMT Yachts and Design Unltimited teamed up to create this 40 meters long and 11.8 meters large luxury motor catamaran.

The BMT Group, based in Southampton and Rotterdam, is a leading multidisciplinary engineering, design and technology consultancy offering its service to many industries including the yachting industry. It has worked on many large motor and sailing yachts, many large catamarans projects including on the 45 meter "Hemisphere" which is being currently outfitted at the Pendennis Shipyard and the largest sailing yet "Douce France".

Design Unlimited, based in Fareham (Hampshire, close to Southampton), is a large design office involved both in production and custom yacht design. They are in charge of the exterior and interior design of this 40 meters catamaran.

They took advantage of the very large beam to optimize the interior and exterior living spaces on the three decks. As you can see the owner suite and the saloon are huge. The lower deck welcomes, in two separate hulls, the crew quarters (port side) and two large en-suite VIP cabins convertible into one master suite (starboard side).

The main deck features two more en-suite VIP and a gym opening on a large deck. The sun-deck includes a pool.

The upper deck is mainly for the owner. It also welcome a very comfortable suite for the captain with a direct access to the pilot house.

The main deck has a large foredeck for two 6 meter tender with a crane and a lower garage for jet skis and water toys.

There are a number of propulsion options for this yacht. You can choose twin diesel engines for a 20 knot cruising speed and a 2600 nm range up or you can "upgrade" to 40 knots with quad diesel or combine turbines and gas installation.

BMT Nigel Gee and Design Unlimited are pleased to announce their collaboration on the development of an exciting 40-metre powered catamaran. The partnership brings together BMT's extensive experience in the naval architecture and engineering of high speed catamarans with the versatile interior and exterior design skills of Design Unlimited. This 500 GRT design is offered with a number of propulsion options, depending on the required performance, and in each case features a proven hull form from BMT's comprehensive portfolio of catamaran designs. The baseline option features twin, 1,432kW diesel engines to give a top speed of 20 knots and a range of 2,600nm. A faster model offers a 32 knot top speed using twin diesels to drive waterjets whilst for those requiring even higher performance speeds of over 40 knots can be achieved with quad diesel or combined gas turbines and diesel installations. The catamaran platform is ideally suited to the moderately sized, medium to high speed yacht. Yachts on the 500 GRT limit are always pushing the boundaries of available space, but with a beam of 11.8m the BMT design offers a substantially greater amount of accommodation compared to a conventional yacht of the same length. The additional beam is put to good use providing extensive interior spaces capable of adaptation for a wide variety of uses and entertainment options. The accommodation spans three decks with the lower deck being split across the two demi-hulls.. This lower deck includes crew accommodation to port with cabins for six crew, the crew mess and galley, the laundry area and separate access to the foredeck. The starboard hull contains two large, well appointed, en-suite VIP cabins with the option to convert them into a single large VIP or master suite. The main deck features two further en-suite VIP cabins and a gym with side-opening terrace for an indoor/outdoor workout. There is also a large, fully-equipped galley. The full-beam saloon occupies the aft half of the main deck with inside/outside dining options for 12, plus a bar, large comfortable lounging areas and circular sliding doors giving access onto the aft sundeck. This sundeck incorporates a feature pool which can also be accessed from the aft hull swim platforms. The upper deck is given over mostly to the owner's accommodation. A massive owner's suite incorporates an aft facing central bed which takes in the full width aft view, together with a walk-in dressing/bathroom and large office/study. There is also an option for a private sky lounge. This deck also houses a large en-suite captain's cabin which has private access to the spacious wheelhouse. The exterior of the yacht is well planned with generous sunbathing and outdoor seating spaces. The main deck has a large foredeck which houses two 6-metre tenders together with a crane and there is also a lower garage for jet skis and water sports equipment.
