MC² 60 WELL ADVANCED - SLIDESHOW

January 25, 2013

Sunreef Yachts keeps perfecting its revolutionary project of a motoryacht-catamaran, 85 Sunreef Power

Introduced officially at the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes 2012, 85 Sunreef Power has already gained world-wide recognition and Clients attention.

Since then, Sunreef Yachts' in-house design office has been constantly working on improving the model to reach perfection and go ahead into the future as much as possible. The yacht's beam has been extended of 2 meters which increases the living area to 522m2. The main idea of the concept is to stress the superb space that catamarans offer thanks to their large beam and to arrange this space in the similar way as on motoryachts. This means one huge main deck spanning the entire beam and housing dining and lounging areas, in both exterior aft deck and inside the saloon that all together create a seamless, open space.

This space arrangement will certainly please the very demanding motoryacht clientele that can now enjoy their favorite motoryacht design and layout combined with catamaran advantages such as stability, comfort of cruising, low draft, low fuel consumption and oceanic range. Extended storage space within the Beach Club on the aft will now easily accommodate a tender for 9, diving equipment for 8 and 4 sea bobs so together with the spa pool on the flybridge this boat will be all about comfort and fun.

GUNBOAT NEWS JANUARY 2013

ELVIS WINS KEY WEST RACE!

Fresh from a gorgeous refit, the GUNBOAT 62 ELVIS trounced the multihull division in the classic Ft Lauderdale to Key West Race.  She won her division by nearly three hours on corrected time, and was third across the finish line, led by only a grand prix maxi racing boat, and a stripped out carbon racing trimaran.  Congrats to ELVIS owner Jason Carroll and his crew that included US Moth Champ Anthony Kotoun.  ELVIS switches duties for Key West Race Week, and will serve as mother-ship and home to Jason's winning ARGO Melges 32 team.  Race winner... best mother-ship... world cruiser.  Gunboat versatility.

PIRATES, GALES, OH MY!  Moonwave's maiden offshore romp

The gorgeous new Gunboat 60 MOONWAVE departed the yard on Christmas eve with her crew Stephane Fumat and Sophie Brehovsky and Gunboat founder Peter Johnstone and Francesca Grum aboard. The two couples enjoyed the 2000 mile passage from Xiamen to Singapore immensely. MOONWAVE was put through quite a test. "We had large, confused seas along the coast of China to Hong Kong. In some of the flatter waters near Hong Kong, we unleashed her a bit and saw 30.2 knots of boat-speed," enthused Captain Fumat. The new Nigel Irens' shapes effortlessly climb through the speed range with excellent manners. Further South, the winds and seas built to gale conditions. "We kept the small asymmetric flying until winds reached the mid 30's, then went to just a deeply reefed main when waves reached 20'+, started to break, and winds topped 45 knots. The centerboard system is brilliant because you can always adjust the balance of the boat with the boards. You simply cannot do that with a cat equipped with daggerboards. The deeply reefed main allowed us to go straight downwind with the wave train and perfectly balanced helm. Through much of the gale, we sailed at 12-18 knots in perfect comfort, enjoying gourmet sit-down meals. It is quite a contrast to my keelboat years, and the sail handling is so much easier than our earlier series. There is no need for staysails or cutter stays," revelled Johnstone, who saw a top daily mileage at close to 340 miles. He continued, "The new hull shape makes for a very dry ride. The forward doors were open the entire trip, and we only saw spray on deck twice." The rough weather contrasted to the near calms as MOONWAVE glided through the pirate infested Anambas Islands of Indonesia on the approach to Singapore. The all black sails are pretty intimidating. The Pirates either steered clear or could not keep up. "We sailed MOONWAVE right up to the final channel markers off of the Raffles Marina on the Western shore of Singapore," Johnstone concluded. VPLP 78 : THE NEED FOR SPEED

VPLP, in their perpetual search for speed at sea French naval architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost have created the VPLP78, a muscular catamaran that will deliver a dynamic sailing experience at the helm, while cosseting her owners in an ambiance of style and comfort.

The layout is designed to capture the moments of a journey in niches of intimacy while revealing vast, panoramic views. The transparency between the interior and  exterior transport the spirit beyond the horizon, weaving a distinct harmony between past, present and future as the voyager glances from the wake the catamaran has traced, to share the ambiance on board and then forward, into the distance to where the breeze propels them. The architects have cleverly distributed all the weight and force of the mast into the roof, so there is no mast bulkhead or pillar in the middle of the salon and nothing obstructs the view and flow from stem to stern which accentuates the sensation of fluidity.

The mood of conviviality is accentuated by placing the galley up, at the heart of the yacht around which four separate lounge and dining areas are arranged, both in the open air or inside the saloon.   The nav station is situated forward with excellent visibility and plenty of bureau space with all instruments connected back to the sporty, raised, twin - helm station in the cockpit.

Within the hulls, two double en-suite cabins and two twin guest cabins all enjoy private en-suite facilities. The guests are attended to by two crew in their own twin cabin. With the aim of delivering excellent performance, VPLP have designed the VPLP 78 with a long water line, light bows purposely intended to remain empty for buoyancy and the engine rooms positioned a-stern.

The mast is stepped back on the structure which is directly inspired by VPLP’s high performance, record winning, racing trimarans and makes for a very powerful sail plan. All sailing manoeuvres have been moved aft of the living area for safety and ease of crew traffic. Control lines are fed below deck, back to the electric winches so that the deck surfaces remain clean and uncluttered by stray lines.

VPLP78 is designed to be built in composite with a fully carbon rig.

JFA AT THE BOOT DUSSELDORF

JFA Yachts will be present at Boot Düsseldorf from 19th to 27th of January in Germany.

JFA Yachts just delivered this year the VPLP 110’ sailing catamaran out of carbon. This cat is the second catamaran built and delivered by JFA Yachts. Thanks to this experience, JFA is now focusing on the catamaran market and develops a new brand name Long Island Catamaran. In fact catamaran offers many advantages such as large area, speed, high stability, shallow draft
and much more. High success of charter catamarans but also racing cats proves that a new era is coming.

Catamarans over 85’ are still quite rare. The first Long Island 85’ is under building and JFA is developing a Long Island 100’ and a Long Island 115’.
In the same time, JFA Yachts is also working on different quotes for custom Yachts (either Motor yachts and Sailing Yachts) and refit projects.
